Three others injured in attack targeting funeral procession according to police.

At least four women were killed and three others injured after a suicide attack in Peshawar on Monday.

“A suicide bomber detonated himself near a funeral procession, killing at least four while injuring three others,” said local police officials. The incident occurred at the Ghari Eesa Khan area of Peshawar. Displaced residents of Khyber Agency, who moved to Peshawar to escape the military operation in 2012, largely populate the area.

“Local people saw three suspicious looking people and asked them to explain themselves,” said senior police official Najeeb-ur-Rehman. “Panicking, one of the militants hurled a hand grenade at them while another detonated a suicide vest,” he added. “We think the funeral procession was the likely target.”

The dead and injured were taken to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital. “Four bodies of women and three injured have been brought to the hospital,” confirmed a spokesman for the hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, while police have launched a search operation.
