Pervez Hoodbhoy Joins F.C. College

Award-winning professor will teach mathematics and physics at the Lahore varsity.

Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy, a MIT alumnus and preeminent physicist, has joined the faculty of Lahore’s Forman Christian College as the inaugural Zohra and Z. Z. Ahmed distinguished scholar.

“Dr. Hoodbhoy is an outstanding academic dedicated to reinvigorating critical thinking and novel research methods in Pakistan’s academia,” said Dr. Jim Tebbe, the college rector. “He will play an influential role in making sciences an enjoyable discipline to learn and excel at for F.C. students.”

Dr. Hoodbhoy joined F.C. College’s departments of Mathematics and Physics on Sept. 1.

“We are pleased to have set up the Zohra and Z. Z. Ahmed chair and are confident that Dr. Hoodbhoy will further enrich academic traditions at F.C. College which are thriving since its transfer back to the Presbyterian Church,” said Razi Ahmed of the Zohra and Z. Z. Ahmed Foundation, a nonprofit organization set up to facilitate advancements in education, health, the arts, and social services.

The foundation has previously supported two annual scholarships at F.C. College’s School of Management. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of Associated Group (AG), one of Pakistan’s premier business houses specializing in the energy sector. Dr. Hoodbhoy has previously taught at the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, and at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. He is the author of three books and over 65 research papers. For his contributions to academia, Dr. Hoodbhoy has been awarded the UNESCO Kalinga Prize for disseminating knowledge of the sciences, as well as the Abdus Salam Award in Mathematics.
