Four-part sequel to fan-favorite TV show will be available in its entirety over holiday weekend.
Netflix said on Wednesday its keenly awaited four-part Gilmore Girls revival, A Day in the Life, will be available for streaming on Thanksgiving weekend.
The announcement came as the world’s leading Internet television network unveiled the timetable for its slate of eight new documentary, drama and comedy series.
Netflix said the four 90-minute Gilmore episodes—taking place in winter, spring, summer and fall—would be available in all 190 of its territories simultaneously from midnight Pacific time on Nov. 25.
The revival picks up nine years after the original show ended and treats fans to more of stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson and Milo Ventimiglia. An 88-second trailer posted on Netflix’s YouTube channel sees Lorelai, played by Graham, asking if Rory [Bledel] thinks actress and comedian Amy Schumer would like her.
No, concludes Rory, explaining: “Watersports. Every time I see her in a magazine she’s on vacation, doing watersports.”
“Uh, no—that would not work at all,” the exercise-averse Lorelai agrees, before asking: “Do you think John Oliver would find me hot?”
Schumer was quick to respond to the teaser, tweeting: “I’ve only done two water sports and they took pictures of it both times. I promise I usually just lay there [sex too].”
The Netflix announcement was light on plot detail but revealed that creator Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote and directed all four episodes with partner Daniel Palladino.
The network also announced the return of dystopian sci-fi series Black Mirror, with six new episodes on Oct. 21. The first seven episodes of the show—spread over two seasons and a special—have showcased major celebrities including Domhnall Gleeson, Jon Hamm, Rafe Spall, Rupert Everett and Michael Smiley.
The third season will feature Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, House of Cards henchman Michael Kelly and Trainspotting and Boardwalk Empire star Kelly MacDonald.
Also on the menu for Sept. 2 is hit series Chef’s Table: France, which showcases the crème de la crème of French cooks in their own kitchens. The third installment follows Alain Passard of L’Arpege, Michel Troisgros of Maison Troisgros and Alexandre Couillon of La Marine as they discuss what inspires them and how it translates into their individual styles.
The series delves into the daily lives of the chefs, from their diverse backgrounds to the honing of their craft and their quests for sensory perfection.
Among the other premieres announced on Wednesday are eight-episode anthology Easy (Sept. 22), starring Orlando Bloom, Marc Maron and Dave Franco, season two of Ashton Kutcher’s The Ranch (Oct. 7) and Beatles-inspired animated series Beat Bugs (Nov. 18).
Netflix also announced it has also cast Golden Globe-winning actress Jennifer Garner in children’s series Llama Llama.
